Saudi Arabia and atomic-capable Pakistan have signed a official mutual defence pact that dramatically enhances their decades-long strategic alliance.
The enhanced defence ties come as increasing concerns among Gulf Arab states regarding the steadfastness of America as their traditional strategic ally.
“This treaty is a result of a long period of dialogues,” a high-ranking Riyadh representative remarked. “This is not a response to individual states or isolated incidents but an structuring of enduring and deep cooperation.”
Escalating geopolitical hostilities have reportedly shaped the strategic equation, with regional powers attempting to stabilise relations with neighboring countries.
The Gaza war has significantly upended Middle Eastern stability, leading to fresh demands for enhanced military cooperation.
The anonymous source acknowledged the necessity to maintain relations with Pakistan’s rival, which is also a nuclear power.
“Bilateral ties with the Indian government are more robust than ever before. We will strive to enhance this alliance and seek to contribute to regional peace in every way we can.”
When asked whether Pakistan would be obliged to offer Saudi Arabia with a nuclear umbrella, the official clarified: “It constitutes a comprehensive defensive agreement that encompasses all military means.”
Pakistani state media depicted the leader and the Saudi Crown Prince embracing after concluding the pact. Participating was the army chief, viewed as the country’s most powerful personality.
A communiqué from the Pakistani prime minister’s office stated: “The treaty symbolizes the mutual dedication of both nations to bolster their defense and to achieving tranquility in the region and the world.”
The pact directly specifies that an attack against either country shall be considered an attack against both.
