Anthony Joshua doubled down on his much-discussed remarks about wanting to “kill” Jake Paul during a news conference in Miami on midweek.

The remarks were first made on the previous day when Joshua was questioned if he would show restraint against the social media star, replying that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

The upcoming bout against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has drawn criticism over safety concerns and the size difference between the two competitors.

Tyson Fury Calls Joshua a “Disgrace”

Former titleholder Tyson Fury labeled Anthony Joshua a “disgrace” for his extreme comments.

But Joshua, justified his stance: “It's my job, we fight. We have a licence to kill.

“I understand many people don't understand it but this is what my job is. I love what I do. The outcome, happens - as long as my hand is held high, that's what's crucial, respectfully.”

He stated, “That's just the mentality we have to have as warriors. I don't know if other boxers think that way. Perhaps they're a bit more tame. The way my mind works. When you're in the ring, it's a risky thing. Anything can happen.”

“You wish your opponent exits the ring in good health, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed knowing you just did your job. It was purely professional.”

Jake Paul's Fiery Retort

Paul, a massive underdog in the heavyweight contest as a natural cruiserweight, was no less combative in his retort.

“This is a modern day combat sport,” Paul stated. “I'm ready. I want his strongest punches. I want there to be no excuses when it's all over. Let's kill each other.”

AJ will face his opponent, 28, at Miami's arena in a bout many see as a significant mismatch, with some arguing it should have been approved as an non-professional fight.

The professional contest will be contested over eight 3-minute stanzas using standard ten-ounce padded gloves, with a stipulated weight limit for the former champion.

Joshua Says He Was “Called In to Rescue” The Sport

Despite the graphic terminology used, the fighter said he has been “called in to save” boxing.

“They want me to stop the Jake Paul phenomenon and I comprehend it and that's why I have to carry the sport on my back in this bout,” he added.

The news conference also had lighter exchanges, with AJ smiling as his rival sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The final staredown concluded without incident, with the underdog adopting a unusual posture before the champion remained calm and lightly grabbed his necklace.

Both Fighters Deny Pre-Arranged Claims

The surreal aspect of this fight has led to questions about its authenticity, including claims that Joshua may be prohibited from scoring a knockout.

“There are no clauses in the contract, AJ can confirm it. We're going to war,” Paul said.

The former champion, wearing a valuable chain, humorously added, “The only thing in the contract that got my interest was the money.”

Paul has stated on social media that the total purse will be exceptionally large.

Jake Paul first gained fame as an online prankster, gathering a huge online audience.

He has never fought anyone of the former champion's skill level but maintained that his opponent would take him seriously.

“It's smart on his part,” Paul commented. “This could potentially be, and will be, the largest loss of his life.”

A victory for the underdog would be arguably the biggest surprise in the boxing's history.

It would certainly leave an indelible stain on his legacy, but the fighter said it would not mean retirement.

“I'd return again, move on,” he said. “I'll be headlining again in a couple of years. It is what it is. I'm a competitor in the sport.”
